It takes a village to bring together an event like the Sundance Film Festival. While avid audiences fill seats in theaters, scores of folks are milling about tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly. But even as seemingly countless moving parts work together to create the best possible Festival experience for all, the backstage excitement is infectious. There’s nothing like the joy on an indie filmmaker’s face as they prepare to see their work shared with an audience for the first time, and the loving appreciation that bubbles up among creative teams after screenings is palpable.
As we eagerly await the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, we’re looking back at premieres that took place at the Eccles Theatre in Park City, Utah, during Festivals past. We’ve got a couple months to go before we can find new favorites in a Festival program that’s sure to be full of fresh stories, but in the meantime we can remember the energy and revisit the feelings that accompany the excitement of the Festival.
