Your First Look at Local Lens, a Locals-Only Offering Premiering at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival

Utahns, this one’s just for you!

At the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, as we prepare to return to in-person screenings in Utah, alongside the online screenings that worked so well in 2021, we look forward to welcoming you to Local Lens, a series of free in-person and online screenings designed just for the residents of our longtime host state. Join us in Park City, Salt Lake City, or from the comfort of your Utah home. Film selections won’t be unveiled till late December, after our Festival lineup is live, but we can promise we have some surprises in store for you.

We’ll also be offering Utah locals a special $100 discount on our Salt Lake City Package from December 17 through January 3, allowing you to take advantage of early access to making your top film selections before the general public. The package offers you access to 10 in-person screenings of your choice at all of our SLC venues, plus all of the benefits of our online Explorer Pass. As a bonus, we’ll also offer Utahns $5 off any single film tickets during the second half of the Fest beginning Wednesday, January 26; take advantage of this offer at any of our box office locations.

To stay up to date on the Local Lens series — and all things 2022 — make sure you’re signed up for our Insider newsletter; it’s where we’ll keep you updated as tickets become available. And make sure to use the hashtag #SundanceLocals to share your Festival experience with us on social.

IN-PERSON OFFERINGS

Join us in person for free screenings at the Library and Redstone theaters in Park City on Thursday, January 27. We’ll also host free screenings at the Grand Theatre in Salt Lake City on Thursday, January 27, and Friday, January 28. Additionally, we’ll invite Utah residents to two free screenings of the Festival’s top films at the Eccles in Park City and the Grand in SLC on Sunday, January 30, during Award-Winner Weekend.

ONLINE OFFERINGS

Wherever you find yourself in the Beehive State, you can also enjoy two online free screenings from the comfort of your couch on Saturday, January 22, and Saturday, January 29.

HOW TO PREPARE

To attend Local Lens events, you’ll want to prepare by registering online at festival.sundance.org and signing up for our Insider emails. Once tickets are available, we’ll send you an email with instructions for securing your seat. Remember, to keep the community safe, we’re requiring that all attendees at in-person events show proof of full vaccination and wear a mask; learn more about our evolving health safety policies here. You can also check out How to Fest for a detailed guide on how to navigate the online and in-person Festival experience.

FREE SCREENINGS FOR STUDENTS

Utah high school students will have the opportunity to watch three screenings of feature-length films and/or view a shorts program during the Festival, and then have a conversation about the films’ themes, storytelling, and production with the artists who created them.

The screenings for high school students will be available through the online platform exclusively, allowing young film lovers in grades 9–12 to participate from anywhere in Utah. Educators interested in having their classes attend an online screening should contact studentprograms@sundance.org.
