If you’ve been wracking your brain for topics to discuss with your family during this holiday week, may we suggest the just-unveiled nominee list for the Film Independent Spirit Awards? While you still might get into it with your loved ones over who you think should win “Best Breakthrough Performance,” at least you’ll all be on the same page about the insanely good year indie cinema had in 2022!

We know that we’ll be talking about these Spirit Award nominations until the winners are revealed on March 4, 2023, because 18 projects supported across Sundance Institute’s many programs are in the running. From narrative features like Palm Trees and Powerlines and Aftersun to documentaries including Riotsville, U.S.A and Midwives, the Sundance family is well represented.

Check out all of our supported nominees below and if you’d like to know more about the programs and initiatives mentioned in this list, click here.
