Yoga Hosers
More than a decade after premiering his Audience Award-winning drug drama Maria Full of Grace at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival, director Joshua Marston returned in January with Complete Unknown, a taut character study led by an enigmatic Rachel Weisz and a typically assured performance from Michael Shannon. After striking up a relationship many years prior, Alice (Weisz) had spontaneously vanished from Tom’s (Shannon) life, only to reappear at his dinner party under the guise of an entirely new identity. When Alice evades his probing questions and promptly makes her exit from the party, Tom is determined to unearth the truth behind the mercurial woman.
On the documentary side, acclaimed cinematographer and director Kirsten Johnson mines years of documentary footage spanning spaces and subjects in order to reframe her own expansive work in the new film Cameraperson. While revisiting her cinematic footprint on everything from The Oath to Happy Valley, Johnson brings to light the intricately complex relationship between filmmaker, subject, and camera. Below, check out all of the Sundance-supported films hitting theaters and digital platforms in September.
