It goes without saying: Even in an age governed by VOD and digital platforms, there is an inimitable quality to viewing film in its traditional setting. That is (if you forgot), the theater. So goes the Sundance Film Festival experience, which is equally challenging to recreate. Despite that realization, we continue to refine our coverage of the Fesitval with new tools and ambitious angles of reporting. Live@Sundance

For the first time ever, the Sundance Film Festival broadcasts a daily live show from Park City, Utah, showcasing unique stories on films, artists, and events beginning January 17 at 11 a.m. MT. Shira Lazar, host and co-founder of the award-winning What’s Trending; Casey Niestat, creator of the HBO series The Neistat Brothers; and Jimmy Conrad, host of YouTube’s KickTV share host duties throughout the week-long show aired on the Sundance Film Festival YouTube channelIn addition to Live@Sundance, join us for the Day One Press Conference, the Shorts Awards, and the Awards Ceremony hosted by Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally.

Each show is interactive, so be sure to tweet questions to the hosts and guests using hashtags: #Sundance #live. Live@Sundance guests range from filmmakers Damien Chazelle and Cutter Hodierne, to actors Miles Teller and Tessa Thompson, and digital media artists Aaron Koblin and Doug Aitken. Twitter Data Visualization

For the first-time in its history, the Sundance Film Festival has partnered with Twitter and developer Wayin to create a data visualization that measures and displays social conversation during the Festival. Beginning January 15, the #Sundance Spark will rank the ‘Top 10 Most Talked About’ films on Twitter, in real-time, and display those film stills and handles as well as volume of tweets per hour. Additionally, the #Sundance Spark will pull in tweets and Vines from the Sundance Film Festival, filmmakers, and press. This fully interactive visualization will live on the digital signage at the Festival, on sundance.org, and within the Sundance Film Festival mobile app.

Social Media Collaborators

@NowThisNews is creating daily Sundance Film Festival round-up video pieces for Instagram and Vine.

@Wired will cover #FreeFail on Monday, January 20, including a pre-Festival release of an exclusive Instagram video from artist Taryn Simon. @Wired also offers exclusive access to images from the Failure Day conference as well as images of select #NewFrontier artists and installations, to be rolled out on their Instagram account over the 10 days of the Festival.

Short Films On YouTube

Beginning January 16, Watch a selection of 15 short films premiering at the Festival on the Sundance Film Festival YouTube Channel.
