Rachel Perkins Asif Kapadia BRAN NUE DAE SENNA FILM FORWARD will travel to Sulphur, Oklahoma (80 miles south of Oklahoma City), collaborating for the first time with The Chickasaw Nation to present screenings and filmmaker discussions to the local community. Directors Asif Kapadia (Senna) and Rachel Perkins (Bran Nue Dae) will attend the Oklahoma program to participate in post-screening audience Q&A’s, panels, and moderated discussions. Senna is the thrilling story of the legendary charismatic Brazilian motor-racing driver Ayrton Senna. Director Asif Kapadia joins the program via London, UK. Bran Nue Dae uses a comedic approach and the musical form to redefine the Aboriginal experience. Rachel Perkins, an indigenous filmmaker from Australia, will also participate on a panel discussing Perspectives on Indigenous Filmmaking with Sundance Institute alumni filmmakers (to be announced) and moderated by Bird Runningwater, the Director of Sundance Institute’s Native American and Indigenous Program.
In addition, just prior to the kick-off of FILM FORWARD in Sulphur, Sundance Institute will be presenting the Native American and Indigenous Program Summit hosted by Bird Runningwater, for more information please email Owl Johnson at owl_johnson@sundance.org.
FILM FORWARD will screen seven films over two days. All events are free and open to the public, taking place at the Chickasaw Cultural Center reaching students, indigenous filmmakers, the local film industry, and the general public through screenings, Q&As, panels, and filmmaker roundtables.
Note: Due to last minute scheduling conflicts, Bran Nue Dae actress Ningali Josie Lawford will attend in place of Rachel Perkins.
