FILM FORWARD will be in Colombia for the first time collaborating with the U.S. Embassy, Colombia, Centro Cultural Colombo Americano, and Proimagenes. Colombia has a long history of film and is experiencing a revived interest in the use of film as a medium to encourage community action and empowerment. The FILM FORWARD Colombia program is particularly relevant as a vehicle to create discussions around powerful films that address important social issues. FILM FORWARD will be traveling to Bogota, Cali, and Manizales with filmmakers Andrew Okpeaha MacLean (On the Ice) and Sofia Santana (Buck). Collectively, their films address the universal theme of empowerment – empowerment to make a choice or to take responsibility for the direction of one’s life. The films illustrate the necessity of compassion and friendship in overcoming the adversity and obstacles that shape one’s life. FILM FORWARD will be reaching students, youth from underprivileged communities, indigenous filmmakers, documentarians, coffee collectors, community leaders, the local film industry, and the general public through screenings, Q&As, workshops, and filmmaker round-tables.
