New for the 2008 Sundance Film Festival

Utah Student Pass:

As part of Sundance Institute's commitment to discovering, developing and broadening future audiences, as well as our commitment to local community involvement, we invite college students from the local community to access the Festival through an exclusive Utah Student Pass. This pilot program offers full-time undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in the following accredited baccalaureate degree level institutions* the opportunity to purchase a Utah Student Pass:

BYU, Dixie State College, Southern Utah University, University of Utah, Utah State University, Utah Valley State College, Weber State University and Westminster College.

*As noted by the Commission on College and Universities. Institutions must have a physical campus.

About Utah Student Pass:

Passes provide unlimited access for pass holders to public screenings and panels through the WAIT LIST LINE ONLY in the cities of Park City, Salt Lake City, Sundance Resort and Ogden.

Passes include a festival photo credential which allows access to events at Sundance House at the Kimball Arts Center, Filmmaker Lodge, New Frontier on Main, Salt Lake City Festival Café and the Music Cafe (must be 21 or older for admittance to Music Cafe).

Passes cost $70; an additional handling fee of $30 will be applied when purchasing the University Pass. The total cost of the University Pass is a value equal to 10 screenings/panels through the wait list line. So after ten screenings all screenings are free!

200 passes are available first come, first served!

How to Buy Utah Student Pass:

Passes are available for purchase on-line only from November 14-December 21, 2007.

A photo must be submitted by December 21st to receive an ID credential before passes are picked-up. Photos will NOT be taken on site. Please look for details on how to submit your photo in your extended confirmation email.

UTAH HIGH SCHOOL SCREENING PROGRAM

As part of our commitment to Utah audiences, each year Sundance Institute provides local high schools students with the opportunity to participate in our High School Screening Program at the Sundance Film Festival. We offer a range of documentary and narrative films that have been specially selected for viewing by high school students. Additionally, we arrange for the film's representative, typically the director, to attend each screening to engage students in dialogue about the film. Through the support from the Salt Lake County ZAP program, these screenings are free to the students.

The Sundance Film Festival High School Screening Program is a great way for students to see that a film can be so much more than just entertainment. It can be a dynamic art form, a polemic or a powerful tool to raise awareness of issues that are currently shaping our national political landscape.

Utah students have been among the first to view films such as Napoleon Dynamite and March of the Penguins. In 2006, students and teachers had the tremendous opportunity to see An Inconvenient Truth and participate in a Q&A with former Vice President Al Gore. In 2007, over 3,000 students representing 34 schools participated and experienced films such as LA MISMA LUNA, IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOON, EVERYTHINGS COOL and WAR/DANCE. If a local high school is interested in attending a screening email studentprograms@sundance.org by November 30, 2007.

STUDENTS AT THE FESTIVAL PROGRAM

Sundance Institute invites high school and college students to experience the Sundance Film Festival by providing access to screenings, panels, and events. While benefits vary slightly for high school and college groups, participating students see films, attend panels about current issues in independent filmmaking, and experience the energy of the Festival. In 2007, eleven high schools and nine universities were represented from states across the United States.

The Students at the Festival application process for the 2008 Sundance Film Festival is now closed. Please check back in the summer for new deadlines for the 2009 Festival.
