Storytellers: Lovett and Hiatt
If you want a story told, give it to these guys.
Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt are storytellers, and the two of them were swapping stories on stage tonight at the Sundance House the way you might hear it being done on a porch somewhere warm — warmer than here, anyway. I imagined them swatting gnats with a hat as I listened to Hiatt bending steel and Lovett crooning out a chorus. Every story they told, in song or in between, was the kind that makes you smile out of the corner of your mouth, knowingly. They were letting us eavesdrop on their night of stories, and we were all ears.
Even more wonderful? Watching them listen to each other.
