We are officially one month out from the 2013 Sundance Film Festival! This year’s film program is filled with sex, politics and rock n roll — all I can say is get ready for a fun ride! Stories like Jill Soloway's Afternoon Delight, about a housewife who takes in a stripper to be her live-in nanny, highlight the focus on the lives of women in this year’s line-up. You’ll see several docs on the Occupy movement, including 99%: The Occupy Wall Street Collaborative Film. And a heartfelt documentary about the lives of backup singers, Twenty Feet From Stardom, will have you dancing in the aisles. This is just a taste. In a few short weeks, you will witness a collection of raw, powerful stories and know as surely as I do that independent film is as vibrant, creative and relevant as ever. 2013 COLLECTION SCREENING: EL MARIACHI
Our second annual Collector’s Circle dinner at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival was a huge success. Patron Circle members at the Collector’s level and above had the opportunity to vote on the next films added to the Sundance Institute Collection at UCLA. With the support and direction of the Collector’s Circle, we were thrilled to be able to add both Gods and Monsters and El Mariachi to the collection in 2012, in addition to undertaking work on a number of other films.
At the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, we are proud to screen El Mariachi and invite director Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk Til Dawn, Spy Kids, Sin City) and co-writer and lead actor Garlos Gallardo to celebrate the film’s 20th anniversary with us. Collector’s Circle members will enjoy an exclusive screening of a brand new print of the film on Saturday, January 19, followed by a Q&A with Rodriguez and Gallardo. The third annual Collector’s Circle dinner will take place as usual on the evening of Monday, January 21, with an exciting new slate of preservation projects as well as a few special guests.

Festival Wardrobe Centerpiece
The most exciting part of prepping for the Festival is finding the perfect winter coat. As a necessity and wardrobe centerpiece, a great coat can stand out while walking on Main Street, waiting outside a theatre or hitting the slopes. Think sparkly metallic shades, vintage shearling or a high gloss black puffy coat!
Sundance Resort
Have Sunday brunch at the Sundance Resort, a beautiful 45 minute drive outside of Park City. Plan ahead and you can see a film at the Sundance Resort Screening Room which screens films from several Festival Programs.
The Native Forum
Each year the Festival presents a program of the most exciting films coming from Native American and Indigenous writers, directors and producers. Explore the breadth of the storytelling coming from different lands in short films, documentaries and feature films. If you can finagle a ticket to the Native Forum Brunch or the Native Forum Party you can meet the newest generation of filmmakers being supported by Sundance Institute and its Native American and Indigenous Program. It’s a commitment that began at the founding of the Institute and is carried on today.
