Powerhouse vocalist and 1998 Theatre Lab alum Karen Mason is celebrating the Christmas season on December 14 at New York’s Iridium Jazz Club.
Featuring traditional music, some not-so-traditional, and lots of fun mixed in, Karen’s Christmas show honors seasonal favorites “Winter Wonderland,” “Silent Night,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” and her favorite version of “Santa Clause is Coming to Town,” arranged by Christopher Denny and Barry Kleinbort.
Karen starred as Velma Von Tussle in the Tony Award-winning Broadway hit Hairspray and originated the role of Tanya in Mamma Mia!, for which she was awarded a 2002 Drama Desk nomination as Best Actress. Karen also starred as Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, which she played over 200 times to critical praise and standing ovations on Broadway and in Los Angeles. Karen attended the Theatre Lab in Utah as a member of the acting company for Happy End, a Kurt Weill/Bertoly Brecht musical adapted by Michael Feingold from the book by Elisabeth Hauptmann. She also won the Outer Critics Circle Award for her performance in And the World Goes Round and acted in Gypsy on Sundance Summer Theatre’s outdoor stage in Utah.
In April, Karen will be playing the Queen of Hearts on Broadway in Frank Wildhorn’s new musical Wonderland, coming to the Marriott Marquis.
