Tibet In Song
Ngawang Choephel's documentary, Tibet in Song, takes us on an intimate journey inside 21st century Tibet: featuring a live array of endangered indegenous songs sung by Tibetans themselves, and weaving complex stories of raw Tibetan beauty, authoritarian brutality, intense pain, and unwavering resilience in a way never before seen on film.
Ngawang, who was arrested by chinese authorities, and falsely charged with spying while filming folk songs in Tibet, spent nearly 7 years in Chinese prisons as a political prisoner for the making of Tibet in Song.
Ngawang's unique story as filmaker turned political prisoner guides the film and stands as a testament to the power of music to overcome oppression.
