A Night of Readings

No matter which coast you’re on, last week the Feature Film Program had a screenplay reading for you!  On December 6 the Screenplay Reading Series of Works in Progress was out in full force, with readings happening simultaneously in New York and Los Angeles.

A Night of Readings

In New York, we presented Nobody Walks, co-written by Lena Dunham and Ry Russo-Young and directed by Ry Russo-Young.  The project was supported at the 2010 Screenwriters Lab, as well as through the 2010 Creative Producing Fellowship with producer Alicia van Couvering.  The cast included Margarita Levieva, Derek Cecil, Janel Moloney, Lily Yarborough, Eleanor Hutchins, Laura Beckett, David Call, Carlos Velazquez, Stephen Gevedon, Al Calderon, and Mike Landry.  The talented actors performed to an over-capacity crowd, and brought to life this provocative look at the sexual entanglement that ensues when a driven young artist invades the home and family of a Hollywood sound designer helping her finish her first film.

A Night of Readings

In Los Angeles, we presented Hello, I Must Be Going, written by Sarah Koskoff and directed by Todd Louiso.  Todd and Sarah developed the project at the 2009 Screenwriters Lab.  The cast included Melanie Lynskey, Dane DeHaan, Christine Lahti, Michael Gross, Mary Kay Place, Rob Huebel, Kari Coleman, and Arye Gross.  Another full house was treated to lots of laughs and compelling emotion by the wonderful cast performing this very funny story about a divorced, demoralized, and soon to be 40-year-old woman, whose life is upended by the unexpected attentions of a bold teenage boy.

We are grateful to the Writers Guild of America, West for sponsoring the Reading Series, and to all of the Sundance Institute community who came out to support these filmmakers and play a crucial role in the ongoing development of these projects.  If you live in New York or Los Angeles and would like to be added to the mailing list for future readings, please email Cullen Conly at featurefilmprogram@sundance.org.
